The Email System

There are many ways you may set up your email for your new domain here at Excel Web Hosting. Most people choose to have there email forwarded to there ISP which is the easiest to set up on your end because you don't have to do a thing. Your account is set up to forward all email ...meaning anything@yourdomain.com to the email account you used to set up your account (the email address you used on the order form). You do not need to change anything on your computer if choosing to use this method for your email.

There are however many people that like to use there many POP3 email accounts here at Excel. This does however involve some setup on your local computer and here is how you would set it up.

1) First you would use your control panel to let us know how your mail should be set up. To get to your control panel (once your domain has been set up) Simply go to http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel .
You will see a section for email setting. Simply follow the simple directions for setting up forwards, aliases, extra pop accounts, etc..........

2) Give your computer the information it needs to find your server using the information provided in your welcome email. If you need us to send you the info again, simply contact us & request another copy of your welcome email.

A) Use mail.yourdomain.com for the incoming (POP) mail server name. You may also use mail.yourdomain.com as the outgoing (SMTP) mail server name if you would like but NO SPAMMING...Remember ...

B) Your mail program will ask you for the POP3 username and in this field you will put either your account username or the name of the additional POP3 account you may have set up.

C) The first time you check the mail it will ask you for your password , simply type it in and if you want to not have to type your password in every time you check your mail and want your email program to automatically check your mail then you will want to tell it to remember your password.

FTP (File Transfer Protocal)

We highly recommend CuteFTP. We fully support CuteFTP. It is the easiest way to upload your webpage to the server. To set up your FTP client you must tell the program how to reach the server and below is what you need to tell the FTP client.

1) Server Name = ftp.yourdomain.com. You may use your domain name after the DNS is pointing to our server. If this is a new registration then you may use your domain name usually within 24-36 hours from when you signed up.

2) Username = Your main account USERID

3) Password = Your Password provided in your welcome Email.

These are the only fields that you need to fill in if using CuteFTP. All other fields are optional.

Once you logon you are automatically placed in your root directory. You will need to place your files in the public_html directory. The first page that you will want to upload is "index.html". Make sure you call the page "index.html" because this is what page will load automatically when someone types the web address http://www.yourdomain.com

ADDITIONAL INFO

You will find additional info on how to set up email forwarding, POP3 email accounts, graphical hit counters, web statistics, secure server access, page not found, etc in your control panel. You may access it before your domain name is available online at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
